Textures celebrates Singapore Literature, with The Bottled City, a roving installation and reading room. We begin at The Arts House and travel to parking spaces in HDB areas like Jurong, Toa Payoh and Yishun, close to where you may live!
The Bottled City suggests that our lives though small in this moment offer opportunities nonetheless for curiosity, introspection, exploration and adventure.

A RED SKY AT DAWN BY TROY CHIN
It is October 1941. War is raging in Europe and tensions in Asia are rising. The last thing the Straits Settlements government in Singapore needs is a dead body whose identity is unknown at the old courthouse. Tasked to investigate the case are two detectives from Hill Street Police Station.
One is a newly appointed detective eager for adventure, while the other is an unwilling veteran just coming out of suspension. With five witnesses who could be potential suspects, they have to decide on who to trust, perhaps even each other.
With a myriad of possible endings, you might be surprised how this murder mystery ends!

PODCASTS

People, Places
Three acclaimed actors of our local stages respond to three works of literature in three podcast episodes. Directed by Samantha Scott-Blackhall, the actors perform excerpts from the plays and Singapore Literature Prize-winning book, and narrate personal stories on the connections, resonances and impacts these words have on their individual lives.
Songbirds
A duet in a jazz club brought into our HDB estates and home by a classically trained pair of singer and pianist. Wilson Goh and Amanda Lee arrange and perform Singapore poems to fresh jazz compositions and improvisations.
Amanda teaches and performs lindy hop and authentic solo jazz dance and is one of the few jazz artistes who straddles both the music and dances scenes in Singapore. Wilson leads The Singers Vocal Ensemble, and most recently performed for the Singapore Biennale.
Poem:
The Visitor & Good Laws and Good People by Gwee Li Sui
After You by Cyril Wong
An extract from Kappa Quartet by Daryl Qilin Yam
