The Arts House Turns Four!
Proudly Announcing Four Exciting Platforms to Develop and Promote Singapore Arts & Artists!
Singapore, 26 March 2008, 7.30pm – The Singapore arts scene has four exciting platforms to look forward to as The Arts House celebrates its fourth anniversary!
Said Miss Jennie Chua, Chairman of The Old Parliament House Ltd that manages The Arts House: “It has become a birthday tradition to announce new initiatives each year. We will continue to create and develop interesting platforms where artists in Singapore are given more opportunities to promote their works regionally and internationally."
The four new platforms that will see more Singapore arts & artists being featured are:
- My Own series produced by The Hall at The Arts House
A series held on the last five days (Wed – Sun) of every month at The Hall, The Arts House Annex, My Own aims to capture the best of contemporary culture in performance, packaged with a delectable meal whipped up by experienced chefs and served in an unforgettable way. My Own will not only be a platform for artists, but will be a complete theatrical and culinary experience like no other. Please refer to Annex 1 for more details on My Own series at The Hall
OneArtists.com is an online networking site that is also a comprehensive database of the Singapore arts and creative industries. Whether you’re a businessman looking to invest in an artist, an interior designer searching for an artist to commission, a curator looking for fresh works, or a visual artist looking to collaborate with an illustrator or fashion designer, OneArtists.com hopes to bring the arts community together and at the same time, make it more accessible to the public. - Spotlight Singapore in Moscow, organised by The Arts House in collaboration with the Embassy of Singapore in Russia
Held from 4 – 7 June 2008 at various venues in Moscow with an aim to create new opportunities for collaboration between Singapore and Russia, Spotlight Singapore in Moscow will comprise an arts programme where music and visual art will serve as an introductory point for the Singaporean delegates to meet their Russian counterparts, as well as a business component that includes a series of custom-made seminars and environment scanning activities. - Asia on the Edge, organised by The Arts House in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board
From 28 November – 7 December 2008, Asia on the Edge is a biennial 10-day festival that aims to engage Asian nations and the Asian community-at-large through dialogues and expositions on the possibilities that can bring about the emergence / evolution of a distinct Asian voice within a balanced global society. Besides promoting social understanding and cross-cultural appreciation, the festival will bring together the best of Asia in contemporary thinkers, emerging writers, rising musicians, as well as culinary masters, an event not to be missed! This time last year, The Arts House welcomed Miss Chua on board as its new Chairman and announced three major collaborations during its third anniversary.
Said Mr. Colin Goh, General Manager of The Arts House: "We made a leap of faith last year and committed more resources into the arts by embarking on new collaborations in co-organising the highly commended Singapore Writers Festival with the National Arts Council and the Singapore International Story Telling Festival with National Book Development Council, as well as partnering Barang Barang Pte Ltd in introducing a new retail concept called The Shop. It has been a fulfilling and equally enriching year and we hope that the coming year of new initiatives will sow the seeds of confidence in The Arts House’s efforts in creating a brighter future for all our artists in Singapore.”
Indeed, the coming year will see The Arts House leap to greater heights with the development of these exciting platforms as well as new and interesting works that culminate as a result. Watch this space!
The Arts House at the Old Parliament
Occupying the 181-year old building which was the former Parliament House and Singapore’s first Court House, The Arts House was officially opened in March 2004 as the only gazetted government building designated as a multidisciplinary arts centre.
