Media Statement by Arts House Limited on Resignation of CEO
Singapore, 26 May 2020 — The Board of the Arts House Limited (AHL) announces that Ms Sarah Martin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has resigned and will be leaving AHL on 3 August 2020 to explore new opportunities.
Ms Martin joined AHL as CEO on 1 December 2016. During her time with AHL, Ms Martin oversaw several important contributions to the organisation. She was responsible for scaling AHL’s internal capacity, building a team of over 100 strong, and for refreshing the vision and mission of the company. Under her watch, AHL significantly expanded its portfolio in venue and festival management, taking over the Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall, as well as Drama Centre, and delivering a full calendar of events across its five sites. She also oversaw the delivery of Singapore’s pinnacle arts festival, the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA), from 2017 to 2019, and guided the festival team in ensuring a smooth transition as SIFA takes a hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Said Ms Martin, “What I envisioned would take 5 years has been achieved in 3 years. I am deeply proud that AHL today is in a strong position to steer the next phase of growth in the arts, placing Singapore deeper on the map as a creator and innovator in the local and global arts scene. The rapid progression we have achieved in just three years is testament to the quality and potential of AHL as a key institution in the arts, and one I am excited to see continue to play an important role in the coming years.”
Mr Wilson Tan, Chairman of AHL said, “On behalf of the AHL’s board and staff, I would like to thank Ms Sarah Martin for her leadership since December 2016. Under her guidance, AHL has firmly established its role within Singapore’s arts scene in venue management, festival programming and place-making. AHL has also provided opportunities for artists to create and present their work in our unique venues and platforms. We have just announced SIFA v2.020, a series of curated virtual events from May to December 2020 that will further engage our arts stakeholders, and we look forward to welcoming our audiences both digitally and at SIFA 2021. I am grateful for Sarah’s contributions and wish her success in her future endeavours.”
Mrs Rosa Daniel, Chief Executive Officer, National Arts Council (NAC) said, “Sarah has built up AHL as a key player in the arts sector, working closely with the Council to deliver key projects which have extended audience reach and engagement. Under Sarah, SIFA has grown from strength to strength as the focal point for Singapore’s performing arts landscape, playing a key role in developing and connecting both audiences and artists. On behalf of the NAC, we thank Sarah for her contributions, and look forward to her continued support for the arts in Singapore.”
With Ms Martin’s departure, Mr Tan will oversee AHL’s operations in the transition period until a new CEO is appointed. AHL has also started the search for a new CEO who can take the organisation to its next phase of growth.
